What is Zoom Agentic Search?

Verification date.

Product names, APIs, connector lists, licensing notes, and MCP setup steps were checked against Zoom and Microsoft documentation on 28 August 2026. These details change. Confirm against live vendor pages and your own tenant before you buy, connect, or process regulated data.

Short answer

Zoom Agentic Search is Zoom's name for a unified context layer that sits under ZoomMate and under external AI agents. It retrieves from Zoom meetings, chat, phone, and notes, plus connected systems such as CRM, files, and tickets, then serves that context through Search API (ranked evidence) or Ask API (a synthesized grounded answer). MCP is how Claude, Codex, OpenAI, and custom agents call the layer.

It is not a Google-style web index, not Microsoft Copilot Search, and not the older “AI Companion” meeting-summary toggle. Those are related products. This is the retrieval layer Zoom wants every agent to call once instead of stitching ten connectors in the model.

Why did Zoom name a context layer?

Zoom's argument, published 11 August 2026, is that most enterprise “context layers” only index what is already written down. That answers “what is documented.” It does not answer “what happened on this morning's call.” Zoom already sits on that second stream. Agentic Search is the productization of that position: static knowledge from integrations plus dynamic context from Zoom, one retrieval path.

Whether that is the right layer for you depends on where the answers actually live. If the system of record is SharePoint and Teams, Microsoft Copilot Search and Graph grounding may be the shorter path. If the missing context is Zoom meetings and phone, this layer is the one built for that gap. The comparison is Zoom Agentic Search vs Microsoft Copilot Search.

What is Zoom Agentic Search not?

Where does a user actually see it?

Inside Zoom, the worker surface is ZoomMate: you ask a question in the ZoomMate experience and Zoom says the context layer (meetings, docs, chat, connected sources) is already behind that question.

Outside Zoom, the developer surface is MCP: your agent calls Search API or Ask API on Zoom's MCP servers. The user may never open ZoomMate. They may be in Claude. The layer is still Zoom's.

Both surfaces fail the same way if sources are disconnected, mapping is incomplete, or Meeting Summary / Smart Recording never ran. Empty answers are usually configuration, not model quality.

Frequently asked questions

What is Zoom Agentic Search in one sentence?

Zoom's unified context layer over Zoom conversations and connected enterprise systems, used by ZoomMate and by external agents through Search API, Ask API, and MCP.

Is it a product you buy by itself?

Zoom presents it as a capability of the ZoomMate / Agentic Search layer, not a separate SKU with its own public price card as of 28 August 2026. Ask API is documented as requiring ZoomMate and AI credits; Search API as requiring an eligible paid Workplace or ZoomMate plan. Confirm on Zoom's current order pages.

What does Zoom mean by dynamic context?

Information about what is happening now that often is not in a wiki: recent meetings, transcripts, tasks, decisions spoken but not filed. Static knowledge is the documented source of truth. Agentic Search is built to retrieve both.

Is ZoomMate the same thing?

No. ZoomMate is the in-Zoom agentic teammate. Agentic Search is the context layer ZoomMate uses, and that MCP clients can call. You can talk about one without deploying the other, but Zoom markets them together.

Does it search the public web?

ZoomMate and federated Zoom AI already use other providers for some web features. Agentic Search, as documented in the 11 August 2026 post, is the enterprise context layer over Zoom plus connected sources. Do not assume every ZoomMate answer is Agentic Search, or that Agentic Search is web search.

Who should read the full guide?

Admins and architects who need APIs, MCP, permissions, and a phased rollout. This page is the definition. The pillar is the operating manual.
