Zoom Agentic Search vs Microsoft Copilot Search

Verification date.

Product names, APIs, connector lists, licensing notes, and MCP setup steps were checked against Zoom and Microsoft documentation on 28 August 2026. These details change. Confirm against live vendor pages and your own tenant before you buy, connect, or process regulated data.

Short answer

Microsoft Copilot Search is Microsoft's AI-powered work search in the Microsoft Copilot app. It retrieves across Microsoft 365 and connected third-party systems, using Microsoft Graph (and Copilot connectors that ingest into Graph, plus newer federated MCP connectors) while keeping SharePoint, OneDrive, and label-based access controls. Zoom Agentic Search is Zoom's context layer over Zoom conversations plus AI Studio / ZoomMate connected sources, exposed to ZoomMate and to external agents through Search API, Ask API, and MCP.

They solve overlapping “ask work a question” jobs on different home graphs. This page does not pick a winner. It maps grounding, surfaces, connectors, and permissions so you can decide what each layer is for — and whether you need both.

Assistant-versus-assistant licensing (Zoom AI Companion / ZoomMate versus Microsoft 365 Copilot seat cost) remains in Zoom AI vs Microsoft 365 Copilot. That article is about the copilots. This one is about the search layers.

How does each product ground an answer?

Grounding as documented by Microsoft Learn and Zoom, August 2026.

First-party contentEmail, files (SharePoint / OneDrive), chats, meetings, plus Viva Learning, Engage, Power BI as listed in the FAQZoom Meetings, Team Chat, Phone, Canvas / My Notes, recordings and summaries where enabled
Third-party contentMicrosoft 365 Copilot connectors (100+ gallery): synced into Graph, or federated at query time via MCPAI Studio data sources (Drive, OneDrive, SharePoint, ServiceNow, Salesforce, Confluence, Box, Zendesk, Workday, Seismic as of KB0084343) plus a separate ZoomMate action-connector catalog

Two Microsoft details that comparison decks often flatten:

How do connectors differ?

Microsoft Copilot connectors ingest and unify external data into Microsoft Graph (synced model), or fetch at query time through MCP (federated model, for data that must stay in source). Microsoft documents Salesforce, ServiceNow, Confluence, Jira, GitHub, and Google Drive among gallery examples, with 100+ connectors.

Zoom AI Studio data sources connect into Zoom's layer with OAuth or service-account setup and mandatory account mapping. Zoom does not claim to write that content into Microsoft Graph. Connecting SharePoint to Zoom is a second retrieval path, with Zoom's 28-day full sync / 10-minute incremental cadence for SharePoint as published in KB0084343, not a Graph crawl.

If your governance model is “nothing leaves Microsoft 365's compliance boundary,” Copilot Search and the Retrieval API match that sentence. If your governance model is “agents live in Claude and the conversation of record is Zoom,” Agentic Search matches that sentence. Mixing them without a data-flow diagram is how you get two indexes of the same SharePoint library with two mapping bugs.

When is each the better default?

Neither vendor publishes a head-to-head accuracy benchmark we can cite. Pilot the same ten questions against both, with the same users, and score citation correctness and permission surprises. That is the only comparison that survives procurement.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a bake-off to pick one vendor?

Usually no. Microsoft Copilot Search grounds in Microsoft Graph, SharePoint, OneDrive, mail, chat, meetings, and Copilot connectors. Zoom Agentic Search grounds in Zoom conversations plus AI Studio sources. Many organizations will keep both because the systems of record differ.

Does Microsoft Copilot Search use SharePoint and Graph?

Yes. Microsoft's Copilot Search FAQ (updated 18 August 2026) says it retrieves across Microsoft 365 apps and third-party apps, using Microsoft Graph for user context, behavioral signals, and organizational relationships. Content includes Graph (email, chats, calendar, files in OneDrive and SharePoint, meetings) plus Copilot connectors. Results are permission-trimmed to what the user can already see.

Is Copilot Search the same as Copilot Chat or Bing Copilot Search?

No. Copilot Search is a query-box find experience in the Microsoft Copilot app. Copilot Chat is the conversational generate-and-act experience. Copilot Search in Bing is consumer web search and does not require a Microsoft Copilot license. Microsoft Search is the older keyword experience.

Can Copilot Search run inside SharePoint?

Microsoft's FAQ says Microsoft Copilot Search is limited to the Microsoft Copilot app. It is not the SharePoint search box.

Does Zoom Agentic Search replace Graph?

No. Zoom does not index your Microsoft 365 tenant the way Copilot connectors ingest into Graph. You can connect SharePoint and OneDrive to Zoom AI Studio as data sources, which is a Zoom-side sync with identity mapping, not a replacement for Microsoft Search or Restricted SharePoint Search.

Which is better for meeting context?

If the conversation happened in Zoom Meetings or Zoom Phone, Zoom's dynamic context is the native store. If it happened in Teams, Graph and Copilot Search are the native store. Accuracy still depends on recording, summary, and permissions on each side. Pilot both against your own meetings rather than a vendor slogan.
